We kicked off this bike trip with a flight to Naples. Naples is an awesome city, not just for having the best pizza in the world, but also because my buddy Robert lives there. We spent the first night at his place, and then we set off eastward, toward Italy's Adriatic coast.
We were surprised by how much climbing we had to do. Even more surprising was that you kept feeling like the climb just had to end around the next bend, and it would finally be downhill, but the opposite kept happening. The climbs kept getting longer and piling up, until we reached roughly the middle of the Italian boot. From there we were more or less coasting downhill.
Along the way we met a bunch of great people and tasted glorious Italian burrata for the first time in our lives. Since our time was slowly running out, we covered part of the route by train, finishing our bike trip between Bari and Brindisi. Then we boarded a ferry that carried us to the next leg of our trip, toward Greece.
