The last part of our route, Corsica's west coast. Compared to previous stages we were surprised by how much elevation gain there was, which meant beautiful views, but also a lot of climbing.
Along with the change in altitude came a change in language too, since Corsica is French territory. Pizza and focaccia gave way to croissants and baguettes, mozzarella to various moldy cheeses. On top of that we felt a real difference in price level, Corsica is fairly expensive compared to Sardinia.
With Ondro and Marcel, the four of us had a fantastic time, along the way we swam and snorkeled regularly, occasionally startled some wild cows, met friends from Slovakia (Hugo, VW T3 camper van), slept on the beach and in the mountains, and saw countless beautiful views and sunsets. The northwest coast in particular was truly magnificent, and riding it by bike is a genuinely unique experience we'd recommend to everyone.
Right at the very end, on the Italian mainland, we still managed to visit Pisa, ride a little through Tuscany, and successfully catch the train home from Florence.
After 26 days on the road we're now quite happy to be able to move around under our own power, and the bikes will probably get to rest for a while. Maybe at some point we'll add a little video, as soon as we find the time to edit it a bit, and sometime next week we'll announce the second and final competition for a bottle of Tuscan wine. We consider Cyklotrip 2018 successfully concluded, and we thank all of you who shared it with us 🙂
